Electrical Circuits

Practical Technique No. 4

Fault Finding3

Three “circuits” set out on a single board, each containing an open circuit line fault, an open circuit component fault or a short circuit component fault.

Oppositely Biased LEDs

Used in conjunction with the Nuffield Operational Amplifier this circuit demonstrates the effect of a positive or negative output from the differential amplifier on oppositely biased LEDs.

Reverse Drive for Electric Motor

Rev Drive thumb

Used in conjunction with the Nuffield Operational Amplifier this rather complicated circuit is set out in a manner which clearly demonstrates the use of transistors in producing forward and reverse drive for an electric motor.

Wheatstone Bridge

This board allows different resistor combinations to be set up and investigated. Experience has shown that they are best used in the class situation by having a number of boards set up with various resistor combinations. The pupils then rotate, investigating each board in turn. This way, once set up there should be no need to change any of the resistors.

Earth / Neutral / Live

In the “Energy in the Environment” section pupils are expected, by use of their practical experience of fuses, circuit breakers and earth wires, to describe the dangers of electricity.
