In the “Energy in the Environment” section pupils are expected to be able to measure the current and voltage in series and parallel circuits and to show the advantages of using, in some instances, a parallel circuit as opposed to a series circuit.

The problem of having a 1.6 m long piece of equipment has been overcome by constructing it in a “U” shape. This is a suitable compromise between having a long cumbersome board or having the wire wound round a cylinder.

This equipment is designed to sit on top of an overhead projector. When a current is applied for a brief period the compass needles are seen to form a circular pattern around the conductor. The compasses, which have glass on both sides, are not included in the price but can be purchased separately – see price list.
