Magnets and Electro Magnets

magnets

The electro magnet makes no pretense of being anything else but a 5 ins nail wrapped in cable. It can however produce a reasonably strong magnetic field using a 1.5V cell, strong enough to pick up small washers or nails. To conserve the life of the batteries or to prevent too high a voltage being applied for too long then it is suggested that a push switch is incorporated into the circuit.

Force on a Conductor

force thumb

Two Magnadure magnets (not included) are attached to the bracket to produce the magnetic field. The bracket can be swiveled round to reverse the direction of the magnetic field and hence the direction of movement of the runner.

Mounted Solar Cell

Solar Cell

A 1000 mA cell with a voltage output of 0.45V mounted on a wooden base. The solar cell along with the mounted lamp and a 24 or 36W lamp provides a neat set up for the “Output of a solar cell” practical investigation.

Parallel Circuit Board

Parallel1

The board consists of three lamps arranged in parallel. The current in each branch can be measured as well as the total current in the circuit. The voltage across each lamp can also be measured as well as the voltage across the parallel block.

Series Circuit Board

Series1

This board consists of three resistors in series. The current at four points in the circuit can be measured as well as the voltage across each resistor. Suggested activity sheets are included.
